Anyway, I've just figured out what the problem was: My server recently upgraded to mySQL 5. I'd already converted the database but, unfortunately, didn't realize "localhost" still pointed to my mySQL 4. I converted the old database again and changed the host setting in "wp-config.php" and everything seems to be working now. I ask because I have move than one install of Wordpress on my server. I use a separate one for testing. You could go into phpMyAdmin and open your Wordpress database.
